Women’s health is a wide ranging topic which encompasses various presentations and symptoms such as menstrual health, contraceptive, postnatal care, perimenopause, menopause and general wellness.
What is the Menopause/Perimenopause?
The menopause is a natural part of ageing that usually occurs between 45 and 55 years of age, as a woman’s oestrogen levels decline. In the UK, the average age for a woman to reach the menopause is 51.
Around 1 in 100 women experiences the menopause before 40 years of age. Perimenopause is the time leading up to menopause – the fluctuation and decline in oestrogen and progesterone means cycles can become unpredictable and irregular.
The symptoms can include:
- Changes to your mood, such as anxiety and low self-esteem
- Irregular menstrual cycles
- Brain Fog
- Hot flushes
- Low libido
- Difficulty sleeping
- Muscle aches and joint pains
- Headaches and migraines
- Weight gain
Meet the Team:
Dr Hisanawi
Since I qualified as a doctor in 2006, my special interest has always been women’s health and metabolic health. Over my career, I have developed a passion and knowledge for offering perimenopausal and menopausal women holistic, patient-centered treatment, advice and support. Through my NHS GP position, I have been fortunate to treat and improve the quality of women’s life at this stage. As diabetes lead, I worked with patients to focus on lifestyle changes and weight management as a key part of their diabetes treatment.
